About Us
Jennifer DeRosa is founder of AdaptABLE for LIFE. As early as a sophomore in high school, Jennifer knew she wanted to be an occupational therapist. During a job shadowing opportunity, she met a retired lawyer whom walked into the clinic with his face half shaven and shirt twisted and inside out. His body awareness was impaired as a result of suffering a stroke. While observing the occupational therapist help this man regain his self-efficacy, rebuild his memory and motor skills, and resume his life roles as Granddad, husband, and lawyer, Jennifer knew occupational therapy services were a vehicle to help people rewrite the meaning in their lives.
As a licensed occupational therapist for over 15 years, Jennifer has provided exceptional service in hospitals, intensive care units, rehab centers, and home health agencies throughout the country. This experience coupled with continued education, is the foundation of her community based consultative business, AdaptABLE for LIFE.
Jennifer is passionate about helping people with different abilities make educated decisions so they may live in their home of choice and remain engaged in the community. Additionally, she consults with organizations striving to develop programs to support their clientele.
“Early on in my professional training, I studied the teachings of many ‘pioneers’ in occupational therapy. There was one in particular, Mary Reilly, whom I believe has eloquently stated the philosophy which inspires my work; ‘Man, through the use of his hands, as they are energized by mind and will, can influence the state of his own health.’ It has become my life’s work to help people influence the state of their own life.”
